LABOUR & TORIES HAVE "SHARED PRIORITIES" SAYS ALISTAIR DARLING
The Scottish Labour Party’s campaign was thrown into turmoil yesterday after a statement was released from the party stating that Anas Sarwar shares Tory priorities.
Alistair Darling as Chancellor pledged that Labour would cut “deeper and tougher” than Margaret Thatcher. Families in Scotland are still reeling from the decade of austerity measures, reported to be necessary by the IFS, in order to repay the last Labour government's largesse and failure to regulate the financial and banking sector.
Commenting, SNP Depute Leader Keith Brown said:
“This intervention is an absolute disaster for Labour just days before a national election.
“Not only have they learnt nothing from their alliance with the Tories 7 years ago, but are actively keeping it alive.
“Labour voters will be horrified to see senior figures in their party say they share Tory priorities. This simply confirms that in order to get the best kind of leadership that will stand up to the Tories, it has to be #BothVotesSNP.
“Labour might have a new leader but the party still hasn’t changed a bit. They confirmed today that they're utterly incapable of standing up to the Tories - no matter what they do to Scotland.
“This election is about who has the leadership and experience to keep this country safe during the pandemic, to keep us moving forward with the progressive policies our people have enjoyed these last 14 years, who is most able to lead a successful recovery, and who will stand up against the Tories in Westminster.
“A vote for the SNP is a vote for the experienced leadership of the First Minister to get the country through the pandemic, into recovery and to protect us from the Tories at Westminster, who at this stage in the last election tried to infamously steal away over £7 billion from the Scottish budget for their own pet projects in the south east.
“And they would've done it if it wasn't for the strength and experience of Nicola Sturgeon and John Swinney, who refused to let them (George Osborne) get away with it.
“It's clearer than ever that a vote for Labour is once again a vote to leave our future in the hands of the Tories, whether they're wearing red ties or blue.”
