DANISH STAR ERIKSEN COLLAPSES AND RECEIVES CPR DURING EUROS
This evening’s UEFA Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland has been suspended after midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch.
The Danish star fell to the ground near the sideline late in the first half and was immediately surrounded by medical personnel. His teammates formed a shielding wall around him to give him privacy as the he was being treated.
Medics could be seen desperately trying to revive him as chest compressions were started, which seemed to have little or no effect, then a defibrillator was used.
It was unclear for quite some time whether the stricken footballer had survived, Mr Eriksen's wife could be seen on the sidelines, clearly distraught, as team captain Kasper Schmeichel tried to comfort her.
The Finland team was led from the park whilst Denmark's players continued to surround their team mate in a bid to shield him from the view of fans and cameras.
The match was understandably abandoned and fans from around the world will have been shocked by what they were seeing.
