MAJOR RETAILER SET TO MOVE INTO SAUCHIEHALL STREET

Glasgow City Council approve plans for 'major retailer' to move into former BHS building on Sauchiehall Street

A MAJOR retailer is set to move into premises that have lain empty since 2015.

Glasgow City Council approved plans to transform the former BHS store on Sauchiehall Street.

The building has become a target for vandals over the last five years and has fallen into disrepair. Plans include a renovation inside and outside along with new glazing, an updated shop front and the removal of graffiti and vegetation that has grown at the site.

A design statement for the plans says: "With the existing building having ceased operation in 2015, it stands empty and in a poor state of disrepair on one of Glasgow’s main retail streets."

The ground floor will be renovated into a class 1 retail store with the upper floors being used as stockroom and staff only areas.

Planning documents do not reveal the identity of the company, but do state the business will operate between the hours of 6am - midnight, seven days a week with permission to sell food and non-food items.
